BREAKING NEWS!! BREAKING NEWS!! BREAKING NEWS!!

BOWIE GOLD ENDS ITS 5-YEAR 200+ GAME LOSING STREAK WITH A LUCKY 11-7 SCORE WIN OVER GREENBELT.

Gold and Greenbelt played a make-up double header that was postponed on May 27th. Greenbelt won the first game with ease 14-4; but then a funny thing happened in the second game. Here's comments submitted by Gold's coach Vail Clemence in his scoring report on today's games:

" After 200+ losses, Bowie Gold won a game. Gold jumped out to a 7 to 1 lead through the 4th inning, scored three more in the 5th making it 10 to 1 but Greenbelt came roaring back in the 6th with 5 in the top of the inning. Gold scored 1 in the bottom of the 6th and held on in the 7th, giving up only 1 run to finish with an 11 to 7 win. Timely hitting and great defense by the whole Gold team made the difference."

And in a show of good sportsmanship Greenbelt's Irv Salzberg noted in his scoring report:

"Congratulations Bowie Gold. Gold played an outstanding second game of the May 27 rained out makeup double header today and earned a well deserved win.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE BOWIE GOLD TEAM WHO NEVER GAVE UP THROUGH THIS WHOLE ORDEAL.

The results of other games played today are shown below.

Most Games Rained Out on Wednesday, May 27, 2009

A double header in both the "B" and "C" Divisions and a single game in the "A" Division survived the wet playing conditions today.

In the "B" Division, Carroll Blue and Bel Air traded victories in what appeared to be 2 thrilling games. Bel Air won the first low scoring game 5-2; while Blue squeaked by 5-4 in the afternoon cap.

In the "C" Division, Carroll Gray won a double header over Dundalk 9-4 and 22-8. (An interesting comment posted on Carroll Gray's scoring form was: "*** I truly love this new set up with 3 divisions and not crossing to play in the A division.")

In the lone "A" Division game played today, top-seeded Harford sneaked by third-seeded Howard County 19-15 in a barn burner.

Lots of rain with few games being played seems to be our mantra this season as 11 of 16 games scheduled for today were rained out. So far, 65 of 135 (almost 48%) scheduled games have been rained out.

By the way, for those keeping track of games between the "A" and "B" Divisions, there have been 20 such games played so far, and guess what? The superior "A" Division has won 19 of those games. Surprise! Surprise! These results probably adds some validity to Gray's comment above.

Today was double header Wednesday. But, unlike Monday, when all of the 'A' Division bullies beat up on the 'B' Division gang, the playing field was level as they were 6 games each within the 'A' and 'B' Divisions, and 5 games within the 'C' Division as follows:

'A' Division
Glen EIg edged the Old Liners twice, 8-5 in the first game and 6-5 in the second game. Harford extended its winning streak to 10 games with a one run win over Glen Burnie 11-10; Then Glen Burnie said "Let's put an end to this undefeated nonsense" and came back to end Harford's win streak 3-2 in the second game , in what must have been ths season's most exciting games thus far. And, In what must have been the second most exciting games thus far, Bowie Silver upset last year's Division 'A' champion Howard by taking both ends of a closely-played double header 11-9 and 13-10.

'B' Division
Bel Air broke its 4-game losing streak with by winning 2 games over the Howard Hitters 19-9 and 14-6. Bowie Bronze traveled 70 miles to get the blues as they got whipped by Carroll Blue 17-6 in the first game. Then to add insult to injury, Blue made the trip even bluer by holding off Bronze in the second game 19-16. And Parkville continued its losing ways at the expense of Catonsville in a very close first game 11-10. However, in the second game, Parkville finally ended their 7-game losing streak with their new-found offense and beat Catonsville 15-8 for their first victory of the season.

'C ' Division
In the "Let's just have fun" division, Dundalk won a suspended game that ended in a tie on April 20, and beat Greenbelt 15-8. In the regular scheduled double header played today, Dundalk continued its winning ways by beating Greenbelt twice 17-11 in the first game and edging Greenbelt 9-8 in the second game. Bowie Bronze played its division counterpart Howard Hitters a double header makeup game originally scheduled for Wednesday May 6, 2009. Bronze beat Hitters twice, 14-6, and 14-4 and with a double win over 'B' Division team Bel Air yesterday, extended its winning to 4 games, after losing its first 3 games to 'A' Division teams.
