FINAL PLAYOFF RESULTS
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 31, 2011
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
REIGNING PLAYOFF CHAMPIONS: HOWARD COUNTY, OLD LINERS AND GREENBELT.
Here's how the final
playoff games turned out:
DIVISION A
In what probably was the most thrilling
of the 3 playoff games played today, Howard County edged Carroll Blue
10-9. Here's what the Howard County's reporter comments:
"Carroll Blue opened the game with 5 runs
in the top of the 1st. After several innings Howard gained the lead
6-5. Then Carroll scored 4 and went up 9-6. Howard tied it and the
game went into the 9th deadlocked 9-9. Blue didn't score in the top
of the 9th ... but, in the home-9th with 2 out, Howard managed to
push across a run for the win.
Carroll Blue played a great game and, had it
gone another inning, who knows ...
As with Howard's Semi-final game it was a true
cliff-hanger and well-played by both teams."
Howard amassed
a sterling record of 37 wins and only 4 losses during the regular season
and the playoffs.
DIVISION B
The Old Liners prevailed in its
clash with Carroll Gray 16-8. Since neither team cared to elaborate
on game's action, I too will remain silent. (hold down the applause,
please!)
DIVISION C
Greenbelt and the Howard Hitters
split their regular season series at 4 wins and 4 losses each. So this
was the tie breaker and Greenbelt emerged as the playoff champions by
beating the Hitters 16-8. Since neither team reported how exciting or
dull their game was this is the end of the write-up.
PS: I hope everyone enjoys the off
season and returns for another great year of Senior Softball.

SECOND ROUND PLAYOFF
RESULTS -WEDNESDAY AUGUST 24, 2011
Second round action featured 6 playoff
games and resulted in Howard County, Carroll Blue, Carroll Gray, Old
Liners, Howard hitters and Greenbelt advancing to the finals. Here's
what happened:
DIVISION A
After earning a hard fought win
over Bowie Silver in the first round, Carroll
Blue sort of cruised by second seed Glenelg 18-10..
Howard County continued to win over
its competition, but this time barely beat Harford County 13-12. Here's
what Howard's score reporter commented:
"Today's game was a barn-burner. Both
teams played well and the lead changed hands several times. The score
was tied going into the bottom of the 9th
and Howard pushed across the winning run. It was a great game and
Harford proved to be a worthy opponent".
Thus, the Division A finals have been set and
will showcase # 3 seed Carroll Blue (26-13) at #1 seed Howard (35-4).
DIVISION B
Carroll Gray disposed of the Howard
Hawks 7-6 in a very close encounter.
The Old Liners crushed Parkville
16-5.
And so, the #2 seed Carroll Gray
will meet the #1 seed Old liners in next Monday's (Aug. 29) final.
DIVISION C
The Howard Hitters advanced to the
playoff finals as they continued their spell over the Bowie Bronze by
beating them 11-10 in 10 innings for the 9th time this season. In the
bottom of the 10th, with the bases loaded and 1 out, an infield fly
was botched by Bronze and the winning run scored..
Finally, Greenbelt brought their
A team in crushing Dundalk 18-9 and will play at the Howard Hitters
in Monday's final.
OBSERVATION: Five out of today's
6 winners were home teams, 3 of which were decided by one run.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN THE FINALS.

FIRST
ROUND PLAYOFF RESULTS -MONDAY AUGUST 22, 2011
The BBSSL playoffs got off to a
rousing start as Carroll Blue, Harford County, Howard Hawks, Parkville
and Bowie Bronze advanced to the second round playoffs on Wednesday
by winning very exciting contests in the first round. Check out the
results below:
DIVISION A
Carroll Blue survived an apparent
old fashion donnybrook by eking out a 19-18 win over visiting Bowie
Silver. Blue will face seconded seeded Glen Elg in the second round
on Wednesday.
Harford County held off Glen Burnie
and came out on top 19-13 in another offensive-minded game. For their
prize, Harford will have the fortune of playing on Wednesday, the winningest
team in the league-Howard County to whom they lost all 6 times they
met during the season.
DIVISION B
Last seeded Howard Hawks pulled
a minor upset over 3rd seeded Catonsville with a 11-7 win at Catonsville.
For their efforts, they will meet 3rd seeded Carroll Gray on Wednesday.
Parkville came out on top of still
another high-scoring game 19-18 against Bel Air. Here's what the score
reporter wrote about the obviously exciting game:
" Each team played hard in a very
close game. The lead changed 5 (times) during the game. Parkville
scored the winning run in the 9th inning when Bob Baur hit a double
driving in Andy Amerheihn with the winning run.
DIVISION C
Meanwhile in the training division,
Bowie Bronze held off a much improved Bowie Gold team as they pulled
away from a 5-5 tie and rallied for 13 runs in their last 4 at bats.
Sparking the rally was a 2-run home-run by Bronze's best hitter -John
Horstkamp which broke the tie.
Bronze meets number 1 seeded Howard
Hitters in the second round on Wednesday.
Today's idled teams-Dundalk and
Greenbelt-will meet in Wednesday's second round.
OBSERVATION: Five out of today's
6 winners were home teams.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
BBSSL DIVISION CHAMPIONS.
HOWARD COUNTY - DIVISION
A
Howard proved to be the dominant
team in the league. From opening day, when they won the first 2 games
of the season, they were perched on top of their division and were never
threatened. In fact, they won their first 15 games in a row before suffering
their first loss at the hands of the Division B Old liners. Winning
almost 90% if their games is quite an accomplishment. Good job!
THE OLD LINERS -
DIVISION B
The
Old liners from Howard County, while not as dominant as their Division
A adversaries, nonetheless proved worthy of their champion status. They
won almost 62% of their games and staved off challenges throughout the
season from Carroll Gray who finished 2 games behind and Catonsville
who finished 4 games behind. A job well done!
THE HOWARD HITTERS
- DIVISION C
It seems like this was a Howard
County year, as the Hitters joined their county-parts in accomplishing
a "tri-fecta": Howard County teams winning in all 3 divisions.
The Hitters excelled by winning 84 per cent (27) of its 32 intra-divisional
games. The Hitters took over first place at the end of May and held
on till the end. Their only real threat came from Greenbelt with whom
they split their 8 head to head games. Great performance!
Side comment: While winning in
this division is the ultimate goal, the camaraderie and recreational
aspects of the game are equally important.
For example, take the Bowie Gold team, who are perennial last place
finishers. This year, just like last year, they won only one of 44 games,
and yet, they played as if they were 43-1, never giving up. Congrats
to the 'never say die' Gold. You guys are a credit to the league!!
